5) Asteroid City / The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (dir. Wes Anderson)

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar

With one exception (Isle of Dogs which is trash), I own every Wes Anderson film. His sugar-coated aesthetic is something you just can’t get anywhere else; this year we’ll be having seconds. While we know very little about both movies, I always eagerly anticipate the latest from the director. Especially after his latest work, The French Dispatch, floored me in its composition, I am ecstatic that our screens will have the double feature of two new Anderson films in one year, featuring both returning faces to his filmography (Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton) and new ones (Benedict Cumberbatch, Ben Kingsley). This is only so low because it’s just a check in with one of my favorite directors and two additions to my ever growing Blu-ray wishlist.

4) I Saw the TV Glow (dir. Jane Schoenbrun)

I Saw The TV Glow

My list of the best movies of 2022 included the absolutely excellent debut film from Jane Schoenbrun We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, which so impressed me that the director’s next feature moved into my most anticipated of the year. I can’t say why I’m excited without praising that first film, so I won’t attempt to.
